Harry Potter fans rejoice! The 1st annual Yule Ball is upon us! This Saturday night in Potomac Lounge at 8 p.m.
For those of you who aren’t Harry Potter fans and have NO IDEA what the Yule Ball is, here’s a short description:
“The Yule Ball is of course a chance for us all to — er — let our hair down.”
OK, maybe you need a bit more of an explanation. Here’s one from the Harry Potter wiki page:
“The Yule Ball is a tradition of the Triwizard Tournament. It is a formal dance held on Christmas night of a tournament year and is opened by the tournament champions and their partners in the Champions Waltz.”
It’s a ball! Harry Potter style! What more could you ask for?!
If you’re going (which I know you are), you need to get ready. Like right now! I bet you that you all did like Harry and Ron and waited till days before the ball to actually prepare! So here’s a list on how to get ready!
Find a Date
If you haven’t done this, you’re severely late! A date is isn’t essential, but it is preferred. I mean, it’s a ball! If you don’t have a special someone to go with, or someone you’re interested in, ask a friend. It’s not like this is prom or something.
OK…it MIGHT be like prom.
What to Wear
The ball is a semi-formal event.
Gentlemen: this means a shirt, tie (or bow tie), slacks, and shoes (NO sneakers). There’s nothing wrong with showing up in a full suit or tuxedo!
Ladies: this means a dress or gown. However, I won’t be the one to go into the specifics of the dress. Just be sure you are comfortable.
BTW, if you have a wizard robe…WEAR IT!
Here’s some inspiration!
Learn to Waltz
This. Is. Important. The Champions Waltz is a tradition. And it happens at the BEGINNING of the night. It would behoove you to practice your waltz either by yourself or with a friend. Or with a broom!
Now, you don’t have to look like this…
…but you shouldn’t be shaking in your shoes like Harry before the waltz.
That’s the whole point of the ball: to celebrate! Eat, have some butterbeer, make crafts, win prizes, DANCE!
You DO NOT want to look like this…
Check out the clip from Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire to get excited!
Enjoy the ball!
