TU Turn Up! I know you all are ready for the stampede that is Tigerfest. I can tell by that ridiculous line in the University Union on the first day of ticket sales. I imagined some of you woke up earlier than you do for your 8 a.m. classes just to grab a ticket! Unfortunately, I was not one of those students. For the 3rd year (all of my years at TU) in a row, I will not be going to Tigerfest.
Don’t feel bad. That same weekend, I’m performing in the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street here at Towson (you should definitely see it if you have the chance).
Now just because I’m missing out on the celebration, does not mean you should feel sorry for me and not have a good time. PLEASE DO for my sake! But I want you to be safe, smart and positive this weekend as well. Heed some advice from a fellow tiger.
Go to Class on Friday
I know the excitement overwhelms you so that you probably won’t be able to concentrate, but you came here for a degree. That one absence from class might come back to haunt you and your grades. Don’t sweat it. You can nap afterwards.
Do Your Homework BEFORE Tigerfest
Trust me. It’s only going to do you justice. Get it done before you go out and you won’t have anything to worry over during Tigerfest.
Travel as an Ambush
This weekend is always more fun with a group of friends. Create memories with them and ensure each other’s safety.
Respect the Authority
Please. Please. Please take this advice seriously. TUPD, SAFE and Baltimore County Police are there to help you and ensure your safety. They deserve nothing but the utmost respect. Shout out to Officer Rob in the TUPD!
Respect Your Tigers
Every other student wants to have a good time just like you. Treat them with respect as well.
Report ANYTHING Suspicious
Hopefully there will be nothing sketchy at Tigerfest. But if there is, report it. You never know what could happen.
Remember Who You Are
Every single one of you represents Towson University. Some of you represent more than that, including organizations on campus. Remember that.
Don’t Be THAT Tiger
If you choose to drink, please do it responsibly. I’m pretty sure you want to remember the good time you had. I’m entirely sure you don’t want to face the repercussions of next morning.
I know I sound like a broken record, repeating much of what you already know and heard, but it’s only because I love this jungle named Towson and every single tiger in it.

And I’ll just leave this here to hype you back up…
Have fun and be safe everyone!
