Spring break is right around the corner and hopefully summer temperatures can pick up the pace as well.
*Insert the bathing suit woes here*
But there are larger issues to face here. While students are flocking to the gym in pursuit of fitness, I am torn in a game of tug-of-war of exercise and emotion. Why does Burdick Gym feel the need to play “Animal Cops” or “Pitbulls and Parolees” on the overhanging television screens? We live in a paradoxical world where Beyonce plays “Drunk in Love” on smart devices while television programs make my eye’s leak to the background music of Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.”
If you are facing repercussions of post-traumatic Animal Planet disorder, you are not alone. This is for you, Humans of Burdick. Here’s an exercise regimen timed to the duration of animal videos so you can feel some sort of happiness while exercising…or until the employees change the channel. With all the videos, feel free to challenge your workout by watching them multiple times. However, they are all organized for your easy viewing pleasure, no weights required.
Quads – 1 minute wall sit
Because you do not want to miss this cuteness, wall sit this one. For two complete sets, hold the wall sit for 20 seconds, rest for 20 seconds, and finish the remaining 20 seconds strong! With your back flat against the wall and your core tight, lower your thighs until they are parallel to the floor and hold.
Glutes – 1 minute donkey kicks on each leg
Here’s an exercise where you can challenge yourself. In the one-minute span of this slow loris eating a rice ball, strive for 20 donkey kicks on each leg. If you are more experienced with this movement, feel free to do more.
Abdominals – 40 seconds of russian twists
We are going to to break this exercise into two sets of 15 second repetitions with a 10 second break in between. Holding a weight, rotate from side to side making sure to touch the weight to the floor. The faster you twist, the less you miss of the sloth reaching unparalleled victory.
Arms – 50 seconds of pushups
Although this is a basic exercise, it is a simple exercise to target biceps. Remember to lower your body to the floor while maintaining a straight back and shoulders so that your body remains parallel. This video may sabotage your posture…
Full body – Plank one minute
Drop your body into a pushup position with both elbows resting flat against the ground at a 90 degree angle. Make sure your body is perfectly straight and hold that position. Contract your abdominals during laughter for a fiercer burn.
If you don’t feel even a flicker of a burn at the end of this workout, you either do not have a sense of humor or…well, it’s just really concerning to not have a sense of humor. Have any great workouts? Be sure to tag us in them @towsonsam! Regardless, funny animal videos are always accepted.
