Spring Break is quickly approaching. For some March 16th is the day they begin whatever type of awesome getaway vacation they have planned with their buddies. For others it means some much needed relaxation time before midterms come rudely knocking at their door.
This blog may be more tailored for those lucky ones who are able to get away from Maryland for a couple days, but hey, why not learn about some awesome tunes even if your just chilling at home during break.
Here are 5 new rap songs you should ignorantly blast during Spring Break…
“Hell of a Night” Schoolboy Q
By now, most people have at least a couple of Kendrick Lamar songs in their current rotation, so why not give his buddy and fellow TDE member Schoolboy Q a shot. You may have heard Q’s 2012 hit “Hands on the Wheel” or the addictively bouncy “Collared Greens” featuring Kendrick, however, the LA rapper just released his major label debut Oxymoron on Feb. 25th and the album is already garnering rave reviews and looks to be headed for some major sales numbers.
Hop on the Schoolboy Q bandwagon and give his EDM-influenced jam “Hell of a Night” a shot. The tune has Q’s trademark dark production with just enough bass to really get you dancing.
“Aerosol Can” Pharrell & Major Lazer
Pharrell had an amazing 2013 as he was behind a plethora of last year’s mega-hits including “Get Lucky”, “Blurred Lines”, and most recently “Happy”. It looks like Skateboard P is poised to have an even better 2014 as he’ll be releasing his first solo record in nearly a decade, G I R L, this month.
Although this Major Lazer collab is not on his forthcoming solo effort it’s still just as hypnotically catchy as everything Pharrell has released recently. Pharrell makes a very welcome return to rapping on this record and it pays off immensely.
“Drunk in Love (Remix)” Kanye West, Beyonce, JAY Z
The original version of this song featuring everyone’s favorite power couple is already tearing up the charts and probably getting consistent play at every party you’ve been to in the past month.
What could make it any better? How about a deliciously dirty verse from the walking headline that is Mr. Kanye West. Kanye comes through like he always does and drops lines that are just as catchy as they are hilarious.
“Who Do You Love” YG Feat. Drake
Another rapper poised to have a huge 2014 is Compton rhymer YG. You probably have already heard his addictive hit single that has a name that’s a little too R-rated for this blog, let’s just say it has beautifully repetitive chorus.
Anyway, YG’s latest offering features rap’s current golden boy Drake and it’s as club-ready as can be. Look out for YG’s debut album My Krazy Life dropping March 18th.
“Man of the Year” Schoolboy Q
Yeah, Yeah… so what if I put two Schoolboy Q songs on this list, this guy deserves all the shine he destined to get in the next couple months. “Man of the Year” has been out for a minute now and it’s already lodging itself in the brain of listeners all over.
Q cooked up one of the most infectious hooks in recent memory with this one and the booming beauty of the track’s production just takes it to a whole new level of enjoyment. Shake it for the MAN OF THE YEAR!
