Hey friends! Hopefully my final blog post of the semester finds you in good spirits (and good health, if you took my advice last week). Today’s a big day- it’s finally the last day of classes! It’s a reason to celebrate… but also a reason to start freaking out. You’re done learning everything that you were supposed to during Fall 2012, but here comes the part you’ve been dreading. Finals.
I don’t know about you, but there are so many things that I would rather be doing than preparing for finals. Yes, I know that finals are a huge part of my overall grades, but getting the motivation to study for them is met with a ton of distractions.
We talked about this last week, college students love to sleep. And I’ll let you in on a little secret: mice do too! In fact, while humans need only about 8 hours of sleep, mice require about 13-14 hours. That definitely cuts into my study time!
Another thing that I am not ready to give up for studying is keeping up with my favorite TV shows. I don’t know how I’m supposed to keep up with Grey’s Anatomy, Once Upon a Time, The Big Bang Theory, and the latest episode of Catfish and still be expected to study! Hulu’s great for catching up on shows that I miss, but then I have to avoid conversations with my human friends who have time to see all of them!
On the same track as keeping up with my favorite TV shows, there are also some movies that I still have to get out there and see this weekend. What I wouldn’t give to grab some nacho cheese at the movie theater and go see The Hobbit the day it comes out. But with a running time of 2 hours and 49 minutes, that’s a huge chunk of time that I’d have to sacrifice. It’s not just the movies playing in the theater, either. I’m a huge fan of ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas, too (which, by the way, is playing all of the Toy Story movies this weekend)!
Yet another thing that I don’t have time for during finals week is packing! Like many of you, I will be traveling home for winter break in about a week. How exactly I’m going to have time to study and pack enough clothes and necessities for a month, I have no idea. I also still have holiday shopping to do for all of my Towson friends, but obviously very little time to do that as well!
Of course, as The Towerlight reminded me earlier this week, the end of the current Mayan calendar cycle is coming up next week too. What this means for us, we’re obviously going to have to wait and see. But personally, I’m still going to study for finals and get everyone their gifts just in case the world continues to exist on December 22nd. I don’t want to be caught slacking off, I’m definitely not that kind of mouse!
Finally, my biggest distraction during finals week has to be the internet. Obviously, right? I mean, I’m sitting here the day before finals start and I’m blogging about not wanting to study for finals. And if you’re Facebook friends with me, you know I’m definitely not shy about uploading tons of pictures and updating my status. And Twitter is so addicting! I know some people who give up social networking during finals week, but I could never be one of them!
After all of that, you’re probably realizing that although all of those other things sound infinitely better than studying for finals. Maybe I even reminded you of some things that you’ve been meaning to do, but just haven’t had the time for. Either way, hopefully you guys are better planners that little ol’ me, because I’ve definitely got a TON to do before the semester is officially over. Thankfully, Cook Library is super accommodating during finals week, and I can stop by whenever I get through my TV shows.
I hope that you have more willpower than I do, and that everyone’s finals go really well. This is going to be my last blog for 2012, so I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s been so nice and welcoming toward me on campus this year. I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, no matter what you may celebrate, and a wonderful New Year! ~Sam
