If you’ve been keeping up with my blogs, you probably saw how much fun at the Love is Louder retreat a few weeks ago. If you missed out on it, today is your lucky day! Since today kicks off Love Week, there are so many events that you can attend where you can show and feel all of the love at Towson. And believe me, there is a lot! Here are some of the cool things you can take part in:
Monday (Today) there is going to be a flash mob in the University Union in the second floor lobby at noon and in the West Village Commons first floor lobby at 12:30. This is coming up soon, so get your video cameras ready and see some cool dance moves.
Then later on today, there will be an event called the Queer Bathroom Monologues presented by Iron Crow Theatre. This will take place in the CFA at the Main Stage at 7:30 p.m. This event is free, but you do need to have a ticket in advance! The event will include a reading of the new play Queer Bathroom Monologues written by Sheila Cavanagh and directed by Katie Ellen Simmons-Barth. The event is sponsored by the Center for Student Diversity, Iron Crow Theatre Company, Housing & Residence Life, The Towson University Department of Theatre Arts, The Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity, and the Women and Gender Studies Department.
Tuesday, there will be an event called Glow in the Dark Zumba. Zumba is fun by itself so I can’t imagine how cool it will be in glow in the dark. At the same time, there will also be a Fun Run through Campus on PAWs Patio at 7:00 p.m. There will be trophies for fastest person and best dance moves! So, get ready to show off what you got!
Wednesday at 11 a.m., there will be an Anti-Bullying Photo. If you are interested in being in the photo, you will meet at Susquehanna, and then you will probably move outside the union. Don’t miss the opportunity to show that you are against bullying, in this photo! Also, you might want to write “Love Is Louder” on your hand or wear your Love Is Louder t-shirt to show your support for the cause. If you don’t have a t-shirt, you can get one at any of our events or from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. any day in the union, for only $10.
Thursday, CAB Presents a speaker named Jamie Tworkowski from To Write Love on Her Arms. This event will take place at 7 p.m. in West Village Commons. He will be talking about pain, hope, questions and community. Check out To Write Love on Her Arms here.
Friday, there will be a Friday Night Live Event! Because Friday will end Love Week, there will be a Love Is Louder Finale featuring Speaker Sarah Wilson Merriman. She will be giving a talk and then there will be a Student Panel Discussion. At the discussion, students will be able to share their stories of bullying and discrimination.
I hope some of you can make it out to these fun and informative events to celebrate Love Week at Towson. There is always so much love here, but this is the week to show it off. Don’t be surprised if someone asks you if you want a hug this week, either. Who knows, maybe it will even be me! –Dana Kobilinsky
