I love to see what’s going on around campus every week. It seems like there’s always something to do to keep our minds off school and work (I have quite a bit of each, as you found out learning about me from Sam). If you’re anything like me, you love an excuse to get out of your dorm (or house, if you commute) and join your fellow students for a bit of after-class fun. There’s really no shortage of events for every interest, from art to fitness. Here are just a few of these events. You can also visit the calendar in full here.
Saturday, October 13: There’s two major sporting events going on today. You can catch the Men’s soccer team take on Drexel at 12, or the mighty football team face Maine at 7 (or both!)
Monday, October 15: It’s Love Your Body Week, and what better way to give back to your body than working out? Stop by the West Commons, Ballroom B for a free Zumba lesson. No experience necessary!
Every student should have a good, clean resume handy. Between 11 and 2, you can stop by Susquehana Dining in the University Union, where professionals from the Career Center will be able to take a look at your resume and offer suggestions. The best part: you don’t need to make an appointment.
Tuesday, October 16:
We’ve all heard how important it is to be a good leader, but do any of us really know how to take charge? Stop by the Union room 305 to take part in an IL.E.A.D. workshop that will not only give you helpful tips on how to hone your leadership skills, but also count toward your I L.E.A.D. certificate.
We all know the library is normally a quiet place for studying, but if you stop by today you’re probably going to hear a bit of Jazz music. Student musicians will be playing between 12 and 1. I can’t think of a better way to spend the hour in between classes than relaxing to some smooth Jazz!
School can get pretty stressful, and many of us have felt the effects of depression, or know someone who has gone through it. The Counseling Center will be having a presentation today educating people about depression and anxiety, and how to help your friends through such difficult times.
Wednesday, October 17: Today is Commuter Appreciation Day, and what better way to show it then a free lunch (what can beat that?)
Men’s Soccer is playing its second to last home game today at 3 against George Mason. Show some love for your Tiger athletics and cheer them on at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
Thursday, October 18: It’s not Thursday without Trivia night. Stop by Paws for a fun night of trivia between 8 and 10. The best part: you can win prizes throughout the night.
Gender stereotypes are a big part of our lives as students and adults. And we all love free food. How do those things go together, you might ask? Well today at 6:30 in Chesapeake at the Union, you can take part in an interactive discussion of such stereotypes while partaking in some free snacks. Sounds like fun to me!
Friday, October 19: Stop by Paws in the Union for the International Cafe. This Weekends at TU event is a great opportunity to show your fellow student what hidden talents you have, from singing and dancing to playing an instrument. You’ll learn about different cultures, and get free food and drink in the process!
Saturday, October 20: Visit this Wear Your Flag event, where you can literally wear your flag, listen to music and dance to various styles of music.
As you can see, there’s plenty of events to choose from. Don’t let school stress get to you…get involved! Happy travels!~Elaina
